I was sat quietly at my daughters cricket training evening reading the latest copy of Beecraft magazine , and had a call from my wife about a swarm at a shared apairy. Luckily enough, we live close to the cricket ground, and a quick shift opf parental supervision happened, followed by a brisk walk back home to grab my swarm kit and bee suit.
My eldest also assisted with the swarm collection, which wasnt the easiest as the bees were on the grass, and they gradually decided to go into the skep. After about fifteen minutes, we left them to carry on but before leaving I showed my daughter how bees fan the naseroff gland signifying the queen is in the skep and why they fan to spread the pheroem.
As the sun was setting, i retrned and took the swarm to my isolation apairy where they will stay for a few weeks to make sure they havent any diseases .
What i love about the swarm season, is the unexpected call and the scenario you encounter when you arrive at the swram, as each swarm can be so different and at times challenging.
